I was unfamiliar with what distance learning was prior to doing my own research. The different types of distance learning are Synchronous, Asynchronous, and hybrid. Synchronous distance learning is the concept of using video chats online which makes it much easier for students and teachers to communicate. Asynchronous distance learning provides the students with much more freedom, allowing them to do their work at their own free will. Hybrid distance learning takes these two forms and combines them. They use the online chat rooms but have a scheduled time in which they must meet.
These forms of learning would be more beneficial for students at an older age. I feel as though elementary students would get confused and also benefit more from face to face instruction. Perhaps it is possible to incorporate distance learning into a few lessons, but to consider doing major parts of the curriculum using this I feel would be troublesome.
